Outcomes-based accreditation provides a pathway for innovative 90–100 credit bachelor’s degree programs aligned with industry and workforce needs
August 27, 2026. ATMAE – Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering announced that its accreditation framework now includes workforce-focused reduced-credit baccalaureate programs, providing colleges and universities with an accreditation pathway for emerging bachelor’s degree models designed to meet evolving industry and workforce needs.
Under the 2027 ATMAE Accreditation Standards, effective September 1, 2026, eligible reduced-credit baccalaureate programs generally consisting of 90–100 semester credit hours, or the equivalent, may seek ATMAE programmatic accreditation.
ATMAE’s accreditation model is outcomes focused, emphasizing what students learn, the skills and competencies graduates develop, and how effectively programs prepare graduates for the workforce. Programs demonstrate educational quality through student learning outcomes, assessment, graduate and employer outcomes, industry engagement, applied learning, and continuous improvement.
“Reduced-credit baccalaureate programs have the potential to provide students with more efficient pathways to workforce-focused bachelor’s degrees,” said Amy Good, Managing Director of Accreditation for ATMAE. “Our focus is on outcomes. ATMAE accreditation examines whether programs are delivering meaningful student learning and preparing graduates with the knowledge and applied skills expected by industry.”
Programs seeking accreditation must demonstrate compliance with ATMAE’s standards for curriculum, faculty, student outcomes, assessment, industry engagement, and applied learning. This outcomes-based approach supports innovation in degree design while maintaining rigorous expectations for educational quality and workforce preparation.
