JIT Electronic Submission Guidelines
Papers being submitted for peer-refereed or non-refereed consideration by the JIT must be submitted electronically by email. Papers are circulated electronically to the JIT Editorial Panel and to the JIT reviewers. All normal communication with the authors, editors, reviewers and the JIT Administrator is by email.
Mr. Dave Monforton, Associate Director of NAIT, serves as the JIT Administrator and manages the JIT submission, review and publication process.
Steps Prior to Submission:
- Check your NAIT Membership status. Authors must be NAIT members in order for a submission to be considered. Email NAIT at atmae@atmae.org or call NAIT at (734) 677-0720 to confirm your membership. Go to the Membership section of the NAIT website to join NAIT or renew your dues.
- Consult the Expanded JIT Vetting Criteria for Authors to ensure your paper meets minimum thresholds to be sent for review. Your paper must have a topic within the range of topics considered by the JIT, it must fit one of the categories of papers submitted for review, and it must include the basic elements required for that category of paper.
- Consult the JIT Review Criteria for Peer-Refereed/Reviewed Articles for more information on the basis on which the JIT reviewers will evaluate your paper. Find the category into which your paper fits and read the review criteria. Doing so may help you identify important content that does not appear in your paper which, if included, may help your paper to successfully complete the review process. If your paper does not meet the threshold for peer-refereed review, or is an informational-only or report-only article, a book review, or an opinion or editorial paper, it should be submitted for "non-refereed" publication.
- Consult the JIT Manuscript Guidelines to ensure your paper is formatted correctly. The Manuscript Guidelines detail submission requirements such as proper file format (MS Word), required cover page content, maximum page length, margins, appropriate fonts and font size, pagination, format of references, and other "housekeeping" items.
- Note - Review Timeline: The biggest factors in the time necessary for review of a paper is the time required by reviewers to do their work and the time needed by authors to make revisions and resubmit. These times can vary significantly from paper to paper. The review process for peer-refereed papers generally takes between 4 and 8 months to complete; occasionally, the process may take up to a full year.
At the Time of Submission:
- Papers submitted for JIT review shall be in electronic format (MS Word "doc" formatted file) and shall be contained in a single electronic file. The article cover page, text, all graphics, and references shall be saved electronically in an MS Word document in a single file.
- Do not submit your Word document in a "read-only" format.
- The cover page of the paper must include: the title of the paper; the complete names (including title, i.e., Dr./Mr./Ms.) and institutional affiliations of all authors, with one author designated as corresponding author; the email address and daytime phone number for the all authors; suggested JIT Keywords; whether the article is submitted for peer-referee review or non-refereed consideration; and, if peer-refereed, which of the four categories of articles it falls into. (See the JIT Manuscript Guidelines for complete information on the formatting of the text, graphics, and references of your paper.)
- Articles shall be submitted by email file attachment with a cover email describing the submission. The cover email shall include the article title; whether for peer-referee review or non-refereed review; and the article category if for peer-refereed review. The corresponding author's preferred contact phone, mailing address, and email address shall be included.
Submit your Paper:
- When you are ready, use this email link to the Submit your Paper to the JIT Administrator. Do not send hard copies to the NAIT office; the JIT process is now electronic-only.
- After a paper is submitted, the JIT Administrator will notify the corresponding author of the receipt and successful download of the paper within two (2) weeks of electronic submittal.
