Article I - Mission, Authority, Purpose and Objectives

1.1

Mission. The mission of the Student Division shall be to carry out the purposes and objectives of the National Association of Industry Technology as they apply to students enrolled in Industrial Technology programs.

1.2

Authority. The provisions of these bylaws shall not be in conflict with the Constitution and Bylaws and the Articles of Incorporation of the National Association of Industrial Technology (hereafter referred to as the Association): and in the event they may be, the Association Constitution and Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation shall govern.

1.3

Purpose. The major purpose of the Student Division of the Association shall be to foster the career development of students enrolled in Industrial Technology programs within institutions of higher education.

1.4

Objectives. Specifically, the Student Division shall serve the following objectives.

To promote the continuing the development of leadership capabilities of students enrolled in Industrial Technology programs.

1.42

To promote the establishment and maintenance of appropriate student chapters within post secondary level programs in Industrial Technology.

1.43

To support the Association’s efforts in providing a certification process for the recognition of the attainment of appropriate standards for professionals who are graduates of post secondary level programs.

1.44

To support the Association’s efforts in providing an Accreditation process for recognition of the attainment of appropriate standards for post secondary Industrial Technology programs.

1.45

To provide opportunities for the study and discussion of all questions, issues, and problems related to post secondary level programs in Industrial Technology.

1.46

To provide opportunities for collecting, developing, and disseminating information concerning programs in Industrial Technology.

1.47

To promote and support all aspects of the development of Industrial Technology students.

 

Article II - Membership

2.1

Division Membership. Membership in the Student Division is primarily for, but not limited to, students from Community Colleges, Technical Institutes, and Universities involved in post secondary level programs in Industrial Technology. Individuals and organizations with membership in other Divisions of the Association may become members of the Student Division pursuant to the NAIT Bylaws.

 

Article III - Officers and Committees

3.1

Officers. The officers of the Student Division shall be President, President Elect, Past President and a director representing each active NAIT student chapter.

3.2

Executive Committee Members. The individuals filling the officer positions listed in 3.1 shall constitute the Executive Committee of the Division. This Committee is charged with the responsibility of conducting the affairs of the Division. If the executive committee consists of an even number of members, the President shall have the tie-breaking vote on any matter on which the executive committee conducts a vote.

3.3

Administrative Committee Members. The President, President Elect and Past President shall constitute an Administration Committee responsible for carrying out and implementing the policies and procedures established by the Executive Committee. The President shall serve as Chairperson.

3.4

Appointed Officers. Director positions shall be appointed for a one-year term by the division President pursuant to article 3.62 after October 1 of each year and prior to the beginning of the annual convention.

3.5

Recommendation Committee. The Directors, sitting as the Recommendation Committee, shall forward a recommendation or recommendations for the office of President-Elect to the Chair of the Executive Board prior to the second meeting of the NAIT Executive Board at the annual convention. The recommendation committee shall give first consideration to a director or directors who are willing to serve as President-Elect but any member of the Student Division may be recommended. The current President, President-Elect or Past President of the Student Division shall not be nominated and the recommendation committee shall give preference to a nominee who is not affiliated with the same institution as the current President-Elect.

3.6

Appointment Procedures. The officers of the Student Division shall be appointed as:

President Elect. The President Elect of the Student Division shall be appointed to a two-year term commencing at the conclusion of the annual NAIT business meeting by the Chair of the Executive Board from the recommendation or recommendations of the Student Division recommendation committee. The President Elect shall automatically move to President for a two-year term and then to Past President for a two-year term. Upon this bylaw taking effect, upon the first election of a President-Elect for a two-year term, the terms of office of the President and Past President currently in office will be extended by one year so that the term of office for President and President- elect will also be two years. The President Elect should be a member of the Student Division. If any of the elected officers are unable to complete their term of office, the vacancy will be filled by appointment by the ranking officer of the Division (President, Past President, and President Elect).

3.62

Directors. The directors of the Student Division shall be representatives of each active NAIT student chapter. The director representing a NAIT student chapter shall be a professional member of NAIT who is serving as a chapter advisor. For the purposes of this section, a NAIT student chapter shall be considered an active student chapter and be eligible for representation by a director on the Student Division executive committee if the chapter has been recognized by the NAIT office as a student chapter, has at least 10 student members as of October 1, and has maintained at least 10 student members for one year prior to the annual NAIT convention.

 

3.7

Officers Duties. The duties of the officers of the Association are as follows:

The President shall:

Organize and preside at all meetings of the Executive Committee and serve on the Executive Board of the Association.

3.712

Keep the Executive Committee informed of all matters of policy or procedure that need action.

3.713

Promote the Division and Association to internal and external communities, serve as the official representation of the Division, and promote NAIT student membership and NAIT chapter development at institutions with industrial technology programs.

3.714

Coordinate the efforts of all the officers and committees of the Division.

3.715

Make a report of Division activities at the annual business meeting of the Association.

 

3.72

The President Elect shall:

Serve as a member of the Executive Committee and the Executive Board of the Association.

3.722

Discharge the duties of the President in his/her absence.

3.723

Carry out special responsibilities as delegated by the President, and promote NAIT student membership and NAIT chapter development at institutions with industrial technology programs.

 

3.73

The Past President shall:

Serve as a member of the Executive Committee and Executive Board of the Association.

3.732

Coordinate the efforts of the Directors and carry out special responsibilities as delegated by the President, and promote NAIT student membership and NAIT chapter development at institutions with industrial technology programs.

3.733

Carry out special responsibilities as delegated by the President.

 

3.74

The Directors shall:

Serve as members of the Executive Committee.

3.742

Be responsible for representing their respective NAIT student chapters,  communicating to the Executive Committee any problems or issues existing in these chapters which should be called to the attention of the Division or Association, and promoting NAIT membership among students at their institution and in general .

3.743

Be responsible for promoting the purposes of the Division and Association through personal contacts, regional meetings, or in any other way deemed appropriate.

3.744

Promote the establishment of NAIT Student Chapters.

3.745

Carry out special responsibilities as delegated by the President.

 

3.8

Executive Committee Organization and Responsibilities

 

3.81

Organization. The Executive Committee shall be composed of the President, President-Elect, Past President and the Directors.

3.82

Meetings. The Executive Committee shall meet at such times and places as may be deemed necessary to effectively carry out the objectives of the Division. The President shall call such meetings.  No less than five (5) members of the executive committee shall constitute a quorum for conducting business. At least one executive committee meeting shall be called during the annual NAIT convention.

3.84

Responsibilities. The Executive Committee shall:

Be responsible for effectively carrying out the objectives of the Division.

3.832

Be responsible for approving operational policies and procedures for the Division.

3.833

Be responsible for the distribution of funds within the Division as provided and authorized by the Executive Board of the Association.

3.834

Be responsible for the appointment of individuals to committees.

3.835

Be responsible for approval of all published material expressing the official position of the Division and insuring that any official position taken is not in conflict with the official position of the association.

3.836

Develop, consider and approve any changes in the Bylaws of the Division and submit them to the Executive Board of the Association for review.

3.837

Be responsible for reviewing all actions taken at the annual business meeting which pertain to the Division.

 

Article IV - Committees

4.1

Committees. The President, with the approval of the Executive Committee, may establish standing committees or special committees as needed. Unless otherwise indicated at the time they are established and members appointed, the chair of a committee shall be the first appointed to the committee and the committee shall report to the President.

 

Article V - Organization

5.1

Geographic Regions. For organizational purposes, the United States and locations outside of the United States shall be divided into six geographical regions to assure more equitable representation. These six regions shall be established as follows:

Region I - Connecticut, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

5.12

Region II - Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota , South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

5.13

Region III - Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

5.14

Region IV - Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

5.15

Region V - Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

5.16

Region VI - Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and international members.

 

Article VI - Parliamentary Authority

6.1

Procedural Authority. Roberts Rules of Order, Revised shall be the authority governing all matters of procedure not covered in the Association’s Constitution and Bylaws or in the Bylaws of the Division.

 

Article VII - Procedure for Changing the Bylaws

7.1

Bylaw Revision. Revisions in the Bylaws are initiated by the Executive Committee, or by the submission of a written proposal to the Executive Committee signed by twenty-five Student Division members, and submitted to the Executive Board of the Association for review (the Bylaws of the Division must not be in conflict with the Association’s Constitution and /or Bylaws). The revisions are then submitted by secret ballot to the members of the Division. A simple majority of the ballots returned is required for approval.
